Some of the qualities that powerful public speakers have are listed below.
Self Belief
Self-belief and confidence play a big role in public speaking. A confident speaker is perceived as one who is accurate, competent, and credible. Get rid of your nervousness and try to portray nervousness as excitement while giving your speech. There are studies conducted which show that people who name their nervousness as excitement speak with ease in public debates.
Do Not Memorize
Never memorize your speech since it will lead you to panic if you forget something. Practicing your speech is essential because it provides you with a clear idea of what you want to say and allows you to convey it clearly. If your presentation does not go as planned, not memorizing will allow you to mix up your words to reflect your opinions on any issue. Memorizing can seem to be robotic when speaking to an audience and is not a good look.
Keep It Brief And To The Point
You do not have to utilize the entire time allotted to you to present your ideas to the audience. Keep your remarks concise and only mention what is necessary. You should allocate some time to address questions from the audience. Ensure that your speech is straightforward and easy to grasp. If you can convey what you want to say in a crisp and efficient manner in thirty minutes, do that. Don’t entrap yourself in the notion that the entire time needs to be used.
Connect
The most important task as a public speaker is to connect with your audience on an emotional level and influence them. A speech is just a conversation where you have to convey a large amount of information in a short time. You need to be able to make it concise and make sure that the audience cares about what you say, as much as you do. Connect with your audience in a way in which they are not distracted and have their focus completely on you.
